Against digital homesteading
This is a personal motto but I don’t know how to flesh it out just yet. Selfhosting bad but communityhosting good. Use services by your friends. Host services for your friends.
I’d like to think there are fewer (not none, but fewer) moderation worries because you are inviting your friends and you trust your friends? Live on the open web while you still can and do your part for making it less of a fiefdom, where you’re either a nerd who runs their own service, or a regular person who has to put up with the shitty services. And it’s prosocial behavior.
