I don’t recommend it.
Slipped off a curb the wrong way while racing to get on a bus, I guess. Crashed into a snowdrift so if the injury made a sound, I didn’t hear anything. Then my right foot started hurting.
I felt like I pulled a muscle while sitting on the bus, but the pain wasn’t subsiding. I wasn’t able to make the walk home from the bus stop; hurt too much to put weight on it. I called a rideshare service.
I rested on a pile of blankets and elevated my foot. Went to an urgent care saying I didn’t know whether I sprained or broke it. They took an xray. I broke it.
Very lucky that it’s a midfoot injury and not an ankle problem. Should have known that when they asked for my shoe size, it was because they were getting me a walking boot :) They told me to keep lying down and elevating it, gave me a nicer set of crutches than I was loaning from the neighbors, and sent me to the orthopedics.
The orthopedics took one look at the x-ray and were like “these usually heal okay, it takes six to eight weeks, call us back in a month.” They said I can put weight on it as I see fit.
It’s been about two weeks since the incident. It still hurts a lot to put weight on it, but I am able to walk a little if I put weight on my right heel and left leg. I have been spending a lot of time out of college lying on the floor. Contacted college disability services and they’re going to help me schedule transportation when I’m feeling a bit more ready to walk around.
I can walk with one crutch sometimes. Two is better and easier, but then I don’t have a free hand.
Showering was hard but I’ve figured it out.
That stuff was written about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I’ve improved a lot; I am somewhat ambulatory on my own if I am careful. I still use crutches for safety and comfort because putting weight on my foot still does hurt, sometimes, if it’s feeling like it.
Transportation to and from school has been going swimmingly. I am happy to get back in class!
Been about a month since that last section. I’ve been doing a lot better and I haven’t used my crutches in a few days.
